Photo: From St. Niklaus, we take a train and a taxi to Taschalp (7261 ft / 2214 m), where we begin our hike into Zermatt. Carole and Stuart join us for the final segment of our trip!
Photo: The magnificent Weisshorn (14,783 ft. / 4,506 m) totally dominates the view ...
Photo: ... until we catch our first glimpse of the mighty Matterhorn (14688 ft / 4477 m).
Photo: This unbelievable mountain alone is worth the entire walk from Chamonix.
Photo: We stand dumbstruck.
Photo: By the way, we're hiking the last stage of the Europaweg, a challenging trail running from Grachen, above St. Niklaus, to Zermatt.
Photo: Other mountains compete for our attention, such as Monte Rosa, highest mountain in Switzerland (15,207 ft / 4634 m)
Photo: ... and the familiar Weisshorn.
Photo: Finally, we descend into Zermatt ...
Photo: ... on the usual steep drop through woods.
Photo: Everybody's pretty happy!

Photo: Before we know it, we're in Winkelmatten, a "suburb" of Zermatt.
Photo: A short bus ride later, we're in the big city itself.
Photo: We made it! What a fabulous trip! - end installment 7
