Google Ignite Terms & Conditions

  1. Google Ignite General Matters

    1. When a participant registers for “Google Ignite” (“the Program”), he/she agrees to the Terms and any program requirements, rules, announcements, judging results published in the official website (https://get.google.com/intl/en_hk/landing/ignite/"). Shall there be any violation, Google Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd. (“the Organizer”) reserves the right to disqualify the participant’s participation.
    2. Participants shall, at all times during the Program, comply with all applicable rules and requirements of the Program, as well as laws and legal requirements of Hong Kong. Participant is solely responsible for his/her participation in the Program. Participant shall defend, indemnify and hold harmless the Organizer, its partners, agents, affiliates, and licensors from any third party claim or liability arising out of Participant’s participation of this Program or breach of these Terms.
    3. The Organizer reserves the right to change or modify the Terms of the Program at any time without prior notice. The Organizer has the right to explain or make a decision on any matters related with this Program or Terms.
    4. The latest revised Terms and other information can be found on the official website.
  2. Google Ignite Registration, Certification and Essay Submission Related Matters

    1. The pre-requisites for participants are as follow:

      1. Participants must be permanent residents of Hong Kong
      2. Participants must graduate during the year of 2014, 2015, 2016 or 2017 from local or overseas universities and tertiary institutes
      3. Participants must have obtained their Higher Diploma, Associate Degree, Bachelors Degree or above prior to July 1, 2017
      4. No full-time marketing job experience, i.e. not currently in a marketing-related role and not working for a marketing agency
      5. Obtained Google AdWords certification by application deadline (certification must be at least valid until the end of Feb, 2017)
      6. Participants who successfully receive and accept job offers must be able to attend the in-person Google Ignite Onboarding Training between June and November, 2017 in Hong Kong
    2. Registration period ends on November 1, 2016 at 23:59.
    3. Participants must obtain Google AdWords certification, submit the application form, upload their English resume, specify their company preferences, provide School Transcript scores and the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE) scores, and upload HKDSE before the end of Registration period to be eligible for potential interviews.
    4. Each participant can only register once using his/her true Gmail account. Registrants who sign up multiple times using multiple Gmail accounts, apply after the deadline, do not meet the Program’s pre-requisites, do not become Google AdWords certified, or fail to submit Resumes or Essays will not be able to participate in the Program.
    5. The participant warrants that all information (including but not limited to, work experience and education history) submitted is true and correct in every detail. The participant shall be solely responsible for any damages, disputes and legal claims involving any third parties or the Organizer due to breach of aforesaid warrants. The Organizer is not responsible for any misrepresentations by any participant, and will not auditing the truefulness of the participants’ representations.
    6. When you register, you accept the “Google Ignite Personal Data Rules” specified on the official web site and “Google privacy policy”(http://www.google.com/policies/privacy/) to collect, store and use your personal data.
    7. In submitting Essays (“the Essay”) to the Organizer, participants warrant that the Essays are the participants’ original work. The Organizer prohibits any copy, cheating, or fraudulent behaviors. If any infringement of third party copyrights, multiple submissions of the same Essay, or publishing or displaying on other media or online platform are discovered, any participants involved will be disqualified from the Program. The Organizer will not verify the copyrights of the Essay. Registration to the Program and / or submission of the Essay to the Organizer will not constitute to job offers or employment agreement from/with the Organizer or participating company. The Organizer may engage third party vendor or professionals to review the Essay.
    8. If the Proposal contains immoral, politically sensitive or any other content that the Organizer believes inappropriate, the Organizer reserves the right to disqualify the entry.
    9. If the participant uses inappropriate or unfair means to participate in the Program (submits multiple entries, has someone else take the certification on the participant’s behalf, utilizes someone else’s work as his/her own Essay or infringe third party’s copyrights), attempts to influence the interview decisions in a wrongful manner, the Organizer reserves the right to cancel the participation, as well as raise legal charges against the participant.
    10. Participants shall cite the sources of information in the Essay in order to avoid copyright violations.
    11. In submitting the Essay to the Program, participant grants to assign the full copyright of the Essay to the Organizer without any consideration. The participant also agrees to grant the non-exclusive license to the recruiting partner and all corporate partners listed on the Program’s official web site to reproduce, revise, edit, publicly perform, publicly communicate, publicly display, distribute, promote, or otherwise use the Essay, without limiting the period, location (not limited to Hong Kong), times or purposes (profit or non-profit).
    12. As the Program registration is online, Essay submission and screening process are all conducted online; it is recommended that the participants create their own backup copies. If there is any loss of data due to force majeure or any other reasons that lead to permanent data loss, the Organizer does not bear any responsibility for the data loss.
  3. Google Ignite AdWords Certification Courses Related Matters

    1. To assist participants in getting AdWords certified, the Organizer has prepared training courses including in-person training classes, webinars as well as recorded videos. Time and venue of the in-person training classes and webinars will be announced in the official web site.
    2. If the participant is unable to attend the certification courses, the participant should study and take the exam by himself/herself.
    3. Attending the certification courses does not guarantee that the participant will pass the certification exams. Please also note that Google AdWords certification will be obtained after passing AdWords Fundamental Exam AND one of the advanced exams, i.e. Search Advertising, Display Advertising, Video Advertising, Shopping Advertising or Mobile Advertising.
  4. Google Ignite AdWords Certification Courses Related Matters

    1. To assist participants in getting AdWords certified, the Organizer has prepared training courses including in-person training classes, webinars as well as recorded videos. Time and venue of the in-person training classes and webinars will be announced in the official web site.
    2. If the participant is unable to attend the certification courses, the participant should study and take the exam by himself/herself.
    3. Attending the certification courses does not guarantee that the participant will pass the certification exams. Please also note that Google AdWords certification will be obtained after passing AdWords Fundamental Exam AND one of the advanced exams, i.e. Search Advertising, Display Advertising, Video Advertising, Shopping Advertising or Mobile Advertising.
  5. Google Ignite Star Discovery Interview Days Related Matters

    1. While participants are entitled to submit company preferences in their application, it does not mean that they have obtained first interviews with their selected companies. Participants who successfully secure interview slots on the Star Discovery Day will be notified by the Organizer.
    2. Participants’ attendance of the Star Discovery Interview Days does not mean that the participants have received job offers. Hiring decision will be made and notified by the participating companies.
    3. The time and venue of the Star Discovery Interview Days will be announced in the official website. Google will provide updates via the official website, should there be any last-minute changes due to force majeure.
    4. If the participant fails to attend the appointment as specified on the official website on the Star Discovery Interview Days, the participant will be disqualified. The Organizer and participating companies will not accept any additional interview requests or complaints, and will not provide any rearrangement under all circumstances.
    5. Star Discovery Interview Days must be attended by the participant in person only. The participant must present a valid Hong Kong ID card for identification purposes.
    6. Participants who receive interview notices are required to comply with the interview manners of participating companies (such as wearing appropriate interview attire, bringing relevant supporting documents and portfolio). Failure in following interview practices could lead to disqualification. The Organizers and participating companies will not accept any additional interview requests or complaints, and will not provide any rearrangement under all circumstances.
    7. After the Star Discovery Interview Days, the Organizer will not be involved in the hiring process. The hiring process will continue between the participant and the participating company, and the participant and the participating company should be responsible for all the matters arising from the hiring process.
    8. Participants who do not obtain the interview opportunity or who are not hired by the participating company must respect the Organizer’s interview selection results, or participating companies’ hiring decisions. The Organizer and the participating companies will not accept any additional interview requests or complaints, and will not provide any rearrangement under all circumstances.
    9. Participants must respond to offers from participating companies at their earliest convenience (as one participant might receive more than one offer from the participating companies). The Organizer and participating companies will not permit the participant to accept more than one offer. Should a participant insists on accepting multiple offers, the Organizer will disqualify such participant. The Organizer and the participating companies will not accept any complaints, and will not provide any rearrangement.
  6. Google Ignite Digital Star Onboarding Training

    1. Participant must attend the Google Ignite Digital Star Onboarding Training upon a valid employment agreement between the participating company and the participant. If due to force majeure that the participant is unable to attend the trainings, the participant must inform the Organizer and the relevant participating company and must obtain confirmation of receipt from the Organizer and the relevant participating company (unilateral SMS or email is not acceptable). If the participant is unable to attend the training program or will no longer be employed by the participating company either voluntarily or involuntarily, the participant must inform the Organizer (with acknowledgement from the Organizer) and the participating company, and the Organizer will cancel the participant’s qualification for the training immediately.
    2. The date of training program will be announced in the official website. Google will provide updates via the official website should there be any last-minute changes due to force majeure.
    3. It is a precondition that the participant must have a valid employment agreement with the participating company in order to qualify for training. The entry will be disqualified immediately should the employment contract be terminated at any time for any reason.
    4. If the Digital Star Onboarding Training program is held before the participant’s first day at work, the participating company will not pay salary to the participant during the course of the training program. If training program is held after participant’s onboarding, the participating company has the sole right to determine if the participant is eligible for paid business leave to attend the training, and the Organizer has nothing to do with it.
    5. Google will provide certificate of completion after training program. Participants will need to attend at least 7 class sessions, which includes at least 4 out of the first 6 sessions.
  7. Others

    1. The Terms is governed by the California law, excluding California’s conflict of law rules. The parties will try in good faith to settle any dispute relating to this Terms (“Dispute”) within thirty days after the Dispute arises. If the Dispute is not resolved within thirty days, it must be resolved by arbitration by the International Centre for Dispute Resolution of the American Arbitration Association and conducted in accordance with its Expedited Commercial Rules in force as of the ending date of the registration period. There will be one arbitrator selected by mutual agreement of the parties. The arbitration will be conducted in English in Santa Clara County, California, USA. Either party may apply to any court having jurisdiction for injunctive relief necessary to protect its rights pending resolution of the arbitration. Any decision rendered by the arbitrator will be final and binding on the parties, and judgment thereon may be entered by any court of competent jurisdiction. All information disclosed in connection with the arbitration, including the existence of the arbitration, will be confidential information. The parties may, however, disclose this information to an appropriate court under confidentiality restrictions, as necessary to seek enforcement of any arbitration award or judgment or to seek any relief permitted under the Terms.

Google Ignite Personal Information Q&A

  1. Who will use your personal data?

    The Organizer (Google Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd.), Program marketing services company (South China Morning Post Publishers Limited) and the Program’s participating companies and their affiliates as listed on the Program official web site will collect, process and use your personal information.

  2. What kind of personal information will we use for the Program?

    Your personal information are the information you provided or occurred during your participation of this Program including but not limited to the personal data you provided during the application (e.g. Name, birthdate, nationality, Google Partners account information, mobile number, email address, school name, major, degree, school year, expected graduation year, AdWords certification status, The Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE), school report etc.), and it also includes the scores that you obtained from the AdWords certification examinations as well as your resume and the Essay.

  3. Why do we use those personal information? How will we use them?

    The personal information collected during the Program will be used for the current and future execution of Google Ignite program, by the Organizer, the Program marketing services company, and the participating companies, and their affiliates. The usage includes but not limited to the following:

    1. The Organizer, the Program marketing services company, and the participating companies, and their affiliates will collect, store, edit, and use your personal information to administer the Program.
    2. The Organizer, the Program marketing services company, and the participating companies, and their affiliates will use your personal information to select the participants during the different stages of the Program.
    3. The Organizer, the Program marketing services company, and the participating companies, and their affiliates will use your personal information to keep in touch with you in the future regarding Google products, training, and Google Ignite related matters.
    4. The Organizer, the Program marketing services company, and the participating companies, and their affiliates will use your AdWords exam results to select and decide the participants of the Program.
    5. The Organizer, the Program marketing services company, and the participating companies, and their affiliates may use your personal information for international transmission, processing, and use.
    6. Your personal information will not be published, but we may use your personal information to generate statistics and make it public as the Program results.
  4. What can you do about personal information?

    You may request the Organizer, the Program marketing services company, and the participating companies, and their affiliates to 1) access or review your personal information, 2) obtain a copy of your personal information, 3) rectify and correct your personal information, 4) discontinue the use of any personal information held by the Organizer, the Program marketing services company, and the participating companies, and their affiliates, and 5) delete any personal information held by the Organizer, the Program marketing services company, and the participating companies, and their affiliates.

Google Ignite Terms and Conditions for Participating Companies

  1. When a participating company registers for “Google Ignite” (“the Program”), it agrees to the Google Ignite Terms & Conditions for Participating Companies(“Participating Company Terms”)and any program requirements, rules, annoucements, judging results published in the official website (get.google.com/intl/en_hk/ignite). Shall there be any violation, Google Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd. (“the Organizer”) reserves the right to disqualify the participating company’s participation.

  2. The registration period for participating companies ends on August 12, 2016 11:59 PM. Registration does not mean the company is qualified to be a participating company for the Program. Google will send notification to inform the company whether it has been admitted to the Program.

  3. Participating companies shall, at all times during the Program, comply with all applicable rules and requirements of the Program, as well as laws and legal requirements of Hong Kong. Participating company is solely responsible for its participation in the Program. Participating company shall defend, indemnify and hold harmless the Organizer, its partners, agents, affiliates, and licensors from any third party claim or liability arising out of Participating company’s participation of this Program or breach of these Participating Company Terms.

  4. If the personal information (including but not limited to working experience and education history) provided by the participant is not accurate or truthful and causes any damages for the Organizer or participating companies, the participants are solely responsible for the damages and legal liabilities. The Organizer is not liable for any information provided by any participant, and the Organizer will not verify any information provided by the participants.

  5. The participating company must reserve the full-time job opening for this Program. If there is any change on the job openings for this Program during the registration period, the participating company shall inform the Organizer immediately and must obtain confirmation of receipt from the Organizer (unilateral SMS or email is not acceptable). If the participating company has no job opening for the Program, the Organizer will disqualify the participating company’s participation of the Program.

  6. Participating companies are required to attend the Star Discovery Interview Days to interview participants selected by the Organizer. The Organizer will provide participants’ Resumes and Essays for interview reference. If the participating company fails to attend the Star Discovery Interview Days, Google will disqualify the participating company to participate the Program.

  7. The Organizer will not be involved in the subsequent hiring processes after the Star Discovery Interview Days. Participating companies will be responsible for communicating and arranging follow-up interviews with the participants. Participating companies are required to provide interview feedback and the roster of participants who will proceed to the next round to the Organizer within 7 days after the Star Discovery Interview Days.

  8. Participating companies are required to provide final hiring decisions to the Organizer by January 27, 2017 and provide the participants acceptance status by February 17, 2017. Participating companies shall assign finalists who have accepted the Participating companies’ offers to attend the Digital Star Onboarding Training program organized by the Organizer. If due to force majeure which preclude the finalists from attending the training program, the participating companies must inform the Organizer, and must obtain confirmation of receipt from the Organizer (unilateral SMS or email is not acceptable).

  9. Digital Star Onboarding Training are only for eligible participants of that year. It is a precondition that the participant must have a valid employment agreement with the participating company in order to qualify for the training. Participating companies are responsible for informing the Organizer if employment agreement is terminated, whether voluntarily or involuntarily by the participant.

  10. The numbers of participants in the Digital Star Onboarding Training should be consistent with the number of job openings listed in the official website. Google reserves the right to determine if more space can be released shall the number of openings of the participating company increases.

  11. The dates of Google Ignite Digital Star Onboarding Training are announced in the official website. The Organizer will provide advanced notice if there are any changes due to force majeure, and in such case, details will be updated in the Program official website.

  12. The Organizer reserves the right to change or modify the content of the Program without prior notice. Shall there be any disputes related to the Program, the Organizer has the right to explain or decide in relation to all disputes.

  13. By participating in the Program, participating company grants the Organizer the right to use and publish their company logo, company name, profile, job opening details on the Program official web site, as well as any other media.

  14. Participating companies agree and accept the “Google Ignite Personal Information Q&A” specified on the Program official web site and “Google Privacy Policy” (http://www.google.com/policies/privacy/) to collect, store and use your personal information.

  15. By participating the Program the participating company agrees that the Organizer is not responsible for any conflict between the participating company and participants.

Marketing and promotion rules for Program participating company

  1. Participation in the Program does not grant the participating company any right, title or interest in Google Brand Features (such as trademark, logo, etc.). Prior to the official launch of Google Ignite 2016-17 (estimated to be around September 2016), no participating company may make any public statement about its participation in this Program.

  2. Participating companies must obtain the Organizer’s prior written approval in order to use any Google Ignite promotional and communication materials in any channel, including but not limited to:

      3. Google Ignite key visuals
  3. Participating companies may make public statement about its participation in the Program after the Organizer’s official announcement by complying with the following rules:

    1. All official Google Ignite press conference and press release will be held by the Organizer. The Organizer will not host joint press conference or press release with participating companies. However, subject to the Organizer’s media strategy, the Organizer might invite participating companies to join the official press conference and accept media interviews.
    2. Participating companies may mention Google Ignite in their own press conference or press release. Prior to these press conference or press release, participating company must obtain the Organizer’s prior written approval for all communication materials.
    3. Participating companies must not use Google’s trademark without the Organizer’s written approval.
    4. Participating companies must avoid using terms related to “collaboration with Google” or “co-work with Google”. Participating companies are not entitled to use the Organizer’s trademark or speak on behalf of the Organizer without the Organizer’s written approval.
    5. Participating companies must not claim to have any special contract relationship with the Organizer, e.g. First, number one, largest, exclusive etc.
    6. In the press release of the participating company, the Organizer will not provide a spokesperson.
    7. The Organizer will not join participating companies’ press conferences.
  4. Should the participating company violates any of the aforesaid marketing and promotion rules, the Organizer will disqualify the participating company’s qualification to participate the Program.
